Loom TM is a Polish improvised duo founded in Wrocław in 2023 and comprised of tadd (Tadeusz Szmigiel) and maot (Marek Otwinowski); artists who share years of experience in theatre composition, musical poetry and free improvisation, as well as hundreds of performances around the world and recording sessions of various projects. The duo's music is a unique form of pure dialogue between the fretless acoustic bass guitar and the soprano saxophone with the subtle accompaniment of a daxophone and amplified sound objects. Their practice has developed a sound language that transcends the traditional character of the instruments. This unique sounds draw listeners into an immersive experience, encouraging new perceptions and personal reflection.

In a Convex Mirror
"In a Convex Mirror" is the first album of Loom TM. This nearly an hour-long improvisation constrained by conceptual frames serves as a reflection on the nature of sound and imagination.
Unattached to a specific outcome and using sonoristic techniques, a variety of articulation as well as the subtle company of unusual sound objects - all this conjures the spirit of Dadaism and electroacoustic abstraction.
The program was recorded in December 2024 surrounded by the Toy Piano Gallery exhibition in Wrocław. The band used an acoustic reverb generator - steel cello made by Paweł Romańczuk. The recordings and mix were made by Artur Majewski.
The title draws inspiration from John Ashbery’s poem suggesting a contemplation of perception and reality. As Ashbery poignantly states, “The surface / Of the mirror being convex, / the distance increases / Significantly” Loom TM’s music distorts perspectives, creating a rich tapestry of sound that encourages exploration and introspection.
